EUThe European Union (EU) has funded research and development since 1984 through their 4-year “Framework Programmes (FP).” The current Six Framework Programme (2002-2006) was implemented by the European Commission under the auspices of the Council and the European Parliament. The FP6 programme is focused on funding research activities in 7 thematic priorities, one of which is the “Life Sciences, Genomics and Biotechnology for Health.” The FP6 program is also focused on topics of European or global significance, supporting projects involving partners from several different European countries.
